The evolution of the Lygon Street Festival is near and dear to Melbourne’s heart. No one quite does family like the Italians, and we embrace the warmth of the people, the tastes of their table, and the charm of their culture to the fullest, especially during their Italian festival. This year, the Lygon Street Festa returns as the Melbourne Italian Festa & Expo 2026, and we are absolutely here for it!

Carlton Celebrates Melbourne Italian Festa
For over 40 years, Carlton has celebrated Italian culture and traditions, bringing together first, second and third generation Italians and those who adore everything la bella Italia has to offer.
Previously known as La Dolce Italia, Lygon Street Fiesta, or the Festa Primavera, the Melbourne Italian Festa 2026 is a magnificent melting pot of sights and sensations showcasing Italy’s fabulous culture in Melbourne. The Lygon Street Festival has grown boldly, moving from its beloved home in Argyle Square to the grand surrounds of the Royal Exhibition Building and Museum Plaza, offering more space, more spectacle, and more of everything Italian.
The festival celebrates everything from contemporary and traditional music to food and wine, art, fashion, homeware, automotives, and culture across two glorious days.
Cafe Culture
A great way to start your festival is with a coffee and pastry from the bevy of baristas and patisseries along Lygon Street. Carlton is the epicentre of cafe culture and, well… Italians Do It Better! Be tempted by all types of coffee, from latte, cappuccino, affogato, frappe, espresso, to Tiamo’s signature Cremespresso before making your way to the Festa.
A Foodies Feast
Italian food is the food of love, made from the kitchen of the heart – la cucina del cuore.
For foodies, the Melbourne Italian Festa 2026 delivers an extraordinary array of delicious dishes, including fresh seafood, wood-fired pizza, and handmade pasta, served by some of Carlton’s most celebrated restaurants alongside market stalls brimming with the finest Italian produce. Authentic Italian cooking demands only the best quality ingredients, so expect the most flavourful meats, aged cheeses, fragrant basil, sun-ripened tomatoes, roasted garlic, and cold-pressed olive oil at every turn.
Simple toppings do wonders. Red, white and green are how they roll in Italy, where the classic Margherita pizza – tomato, mozzarella, and basil – is a sublime sensation.
Then there’s the wine: the Festa’s exclusive IF Vino degustation experience, held in the stunning Royal Exhibition Building Gallery, lets you explore bold reds, crisp whites, and elegant sparkling wines while meeting passionate sommeliers and winemakers. Salute!
Entertaining Activities For The Family
The Melbourne Italian Festa is rich with free events that will get your toes tapping, your hips swaying, and the adrenaline pumping.
Alongside the magnificent food and wine stalls, there are dedicated kids’ activities and live entertainment for the whole family to enjoy across two full days. The carnival atmosphere showcases roving street performers, fashion trends, craft markets, automotive and bike exhibitions, cooking demonstrations, and live music; both contemporary and traditional. For something truly special, the IF Jazz Club presents an exclusive collaboration with the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, bringing world-class sounds to the piazza. The Lygon Street Festa, the Melbourne Italian Festa, the Lygon Street Festival (call it what you will), the energy of the crowd says it all.
